Types of Grants

College grants are a form of financial aid that does not need to be repaid and are typically awarded based on financial need or specific eligibility criteria. Federal and state grants help reduce the overall cost of college, making higher education more accessible.

You must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid each year to be eligible for grants.

Federal Pell Grant

The maximum Federal Pell Grant is $7,395 for 2025-2026 (July 1, 2025 – June 30, 2026). The grant award is based on the family’s expected contribution amount as calculated by the FAFSA.

Need-Based Grants

The Pell Promise Grant is for Federal Pell Grant eligible students. It will pay up to the cost of full-time tuition after all other grants and gift aid. This does not include housing and food. The award is renewable each year upon filing the FAFSA.

To receive the Pell Promise Grant, students must be:

• 2023 or later high school graduates
• Residents of Kentucky
• Admitted to Spalding University as a first-time, full-time undergraduate student
• Maintain full-time enrollment and maintain satisfactory academic progress
• File the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) no later than March 30th prior to the award year
  • For example, to apply for the Pell Promise Grant for the 2026-2027 academic year, applicants must have their FAFSA filed by March 30, 2026
• Qualify for the Federal Pell Grant

We award the Catherine Spalding Spirit Grant to undergraduate students who demonstrate financial need, have complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and maintain full-time enrollment status.

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG)

The SEOG is up to $1000 per year per student. The total amount may vary as Spalding’s total SEOG funding is determined by the number of students who are Pell Grant eligible.

College Access Program (CAP) Grant

The College Access Program Grant (CAP) is up to $5,300 for 2025-2026.  This grant is available to Kentucky residents who are Pell Grant eligible and awarded by the state.

Kentucky Tuition Grant (KTG)

The Kentucky Tuition Grant (KTG) is up to $3,500 for 2025-2026. It is available to Kentucky residents who attend a private college or university and is awarded by the state.
