If, though, you are new to the process and to using the Online Form, we strongly encourage you to take just a few minutes and read the following important information about the Dissertation Ordering process at Spalding University Library-- OBTAINING DISSERTATIONS LISTED IN DISSERTATION ABSTRACTS OR AVAILABLE AT OTHER LIBRARIES Dissertations may be ordered through Interlibrary Loan, Dissertation Express, or University Microfilms International. In addition, a few research institutions are making their current dissertations available electronically. The University of Kentucky is one of these. Please keep in mind when ordering dissertations through Interlibrary Loan that there is often only one lender so it may take longer or cost almost as much as purchasing the item. Some libraries will not loan dissertations at all. Dissertations (1994 - ) found in Dissertation Abstracts may have a long summary (20 pages) available. It might be that this summary will fulfill your research needs or at least will allow you to evaluate whether or not to purchase the dissertation. Dissertation Express is a fast and inexpensive service through which the library may order dissertations for faculty, staff, and students. The procedure for ordering dissertations through Dissertation Express is very similiar to ordering items through Interlibrary Loan. For every item ordered you must completely fill out the form available online or in the library. Please be sure to fill in the form as completely and in the case of paper forms, as.legibly as possible to avoid delays in processing. All completed forms should be turned into the staff at the Circulation Desk (or in the case of electronic forms simply submitted from the web site). The request will be processed by the Assistant Librarian for Technical Services the next day. When your material arrives, we will contact you by phone (or, in the case of the online submission, by email); or if we cannot reach you within 48 hours, we will contact you by mail.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT DISSERTATION EXPRESS Q: Are all items requested actually received? A: Some older dissertations and master's theses may not be available through the company that offers Dissertation Express. We cannot guarantee that every dissertation or theses ordered will be received, particularly those located through sources other than Dissertation Abstracts. Q: What are the charges per dissertation? A: The charge per dissertation or theses is $28.00. Dissertations will arrive unbound and shrink-wrapped. Q: How long does it take for dissertations to arrive? A: Dissertations will arrive at the library in about 3-4 days. This service is faster than Interlibrary Loan or ordering directly through University Microfilms International (UMI). It is also somewhat cheaper than UMI. Q: If something I have requested comes in too late for me to use, do I still have to pay for it? A: While we make every effort to obtain items for you by the needed date, we can't guarantee that they will arrive in time. If the materials are late, the charges stipulated by the provider must still be paid.
