Section from Ink Drawing, "River Mist"

I SEE MY ROLE, as an artist, to bring insight and gratification into a world that appears daily as regular and routine. The awareness that art is a major part of history, effectively allowing civilization to promote and expand its imagination, only encourages my belief in its high and timeless value.  I will grow from what I have learned and will continue to learn from taking classes, attending gallery openings, and being exposed to the art world.  Art will always be a force through which self-expression collaborates with insight.

Art and architecture have always captivated my curiosity, especially the old churches and cathedrals.  I stand in awe and try to comprehend what great patience and talent were involved in creating such extraordinary pieces of art.

For me, not only the creation of such imagery, but also the ability to restore it to its grandeur, is the ultimate accomplishment. Insight into the past can only inspire the future of my world as an artist as I explore the possibilities of restoration.  Giving back to the community at large has always been a high priority, and through this area of expertise – creation and restoration - I will be able to fully utilize my talents as an artist.

As I continue to pursue my art degree at Spalding University, I fully intend to make use of all resources available here, including certainly the talent of the instructors, to acquire the knowledge and discovery-sense for expanding my understanding and capability in the field of art and restoration.

Art, for me, is an expression of ideas and thoughts one does not know exist.  It is only in the finished, created form that the presence of the idea and concept, magical and mystical as intuition, appears.  Art will always remain a force of expression and discovery in my life, as it never ceases to surprise me.
