Distinctive Characteristics
Cohort Design
One of the strengths of the Ed.D. Program is the cohort system. Students who begin with a cohort group remain with that group through completion, creating a unique system of support during the program and beyond.
Delivery System
Core classes are taken in three terms (fall, winter and spring) per year.
Two courses are scheduled during each term in a five-weekend model, except that year one also includes a Sunday morning seminar throughout the year.
Saturday courses meet from 8 am to 3:30 pm. Sunday courses during the first year meet from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm. During the second year, Sunday courses meet from 8 am to 3:30 pm.
- In addition to the core curriculum, students complete twelve [12] hours for the cognate area. Students may transfer appropriate course credits earned after the master's degree to meet the 12-hour cognate requirement.
Candidacy is awarded at the successful completion of the oral comprehensive examination given at the end of year two.
